These programs are offered at no cost during after school hours for girls ages 11-17. The DIVA Den is open one day a week, for 12-weeks per semester (Fall and Spring). Each session runs between 1 ½-2 hours. Currently, there are three DIVA Den programs: Sisters of Nia, Girls For A Change (a national program), and Girls Circle. These programs are offered in schools (through our partner Communities In Schools), community centers (through our partnership with the Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities), as well as various area churches. See more details about each program by clicking on the program's page. Contact us to see what programs are being offered in your area, or how programs may be made available in your school, church, or local community center.
To join, girls need only have the desire to participate, make a commitment to attend the meetings, and agree to follow the circle guidelines: no put-downs or interruptions; offer experiences, not advice; and keep what is said in the group private. Girls are free to share at their own pace. Through listening and having respect for themselves and others, participants can reflect on and express their own thoughts and feelings. The Girls' Circle does not aim to provide answers or advice, but encourages girls to share experiences that are helpful to one another. Facilitators are adult females trained on the Girls' Circle model with a solid, progressive framework of applicable skills to facilitate gender-specific programs for girls.
